According to the National Institute of Health, your pet can lower your blood pressure and cholesterol. This follows a study of 421 adults who had had heart attacks, after a year later, dog owners were more likely to be alive than those who did not have dogs.
This might be because dog owners exercise more which reduces risks of heart disease. By walking your dogs, you also stay socially connected. Having more social relationships seems to improve a person’s mental and physical health.
The comfort of having dogs with you is also a benefit. Anyone who has ever been a caregiver knows the sense of satisfaction of being needed and being able to provide sustenance and support leaves one feeling more positive. As dogs provide unconditional love, this becomes an added benefit.
